Cape Verde was recognized by the Chinese authorities for the results achieved within the framework of the China-FAO South-South Cooperation Project, which has been underway since September 2023 and has made significant progress in strengthening technical capacities, transferring knowledge and adapting agriculture to climate change.

The recognition was expressed during the official visit of the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, to the People's Republic of China, when the Chinese government reaffirmed its commitment to deepening this strategic partnership, considering the project a solid foundation for medium and long-term agricultural development in Cape Verde.

The Cape Verdean leader expressed his satisfaction with the results obtained, highlighting the concrete impact of the cooperation on strengthening the agri-food sector, food security and the country's sustainable development, as well as the initiative's potential to generate lasting benefits.

As part of his six-day official visit, Gilberto Silva has been carrying out an intense work agenda focused on strengthening international cooperation in the agri-food sector. According to a statement issued by the Cape Verdean government, to which Forbes Lusophone Africa had access, the minister held institutional meetings, including a visit to the International Cooperation Center of China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

The agenda also included a meeting with the company CMEC Group - China Machinery Engineering Corporation, which expressed interest in cooperating with Cape Verde in identifying solutions and agricultural equipment tailored to the national reality.

The visit, which took in the cities of Beijing, Hunan and Shanghai, reinforces Cape Verde's commitment to consolidating strategic partnerships and promoting more modern, resilient and sustainable agriculture.
